A letter from the Executive Director

June 18, 2009

All Human Services are in big trouble if the state adopts the current “50% doomsday” budget.

The DHS budget for 2009 is $4 bil. The budget for 2010 is $1.6 bil.  Programs for people with developmental disabilities will be affected.

All Grant & Respite programs are eliminated as of July 1st.  These include: All respite programs, Family Support, Vocational Development, Supported Employment, Sheltered Employment, Dental Services, Epilepsy, Diagnosis/Evaluation, etc.

The Arc’s Family Support grant is eliminated as of July 1st. This grant paid for our Low Cost Guardianships, Resource & Referral, Money Management, Family Workshops and Social Activities.

If you want to help, you can:

2. Contact your legislators and state leaders
with a simple request: Restore the 2009 Budget for Human Services.
(click here for contact information)

3. Ask them to restore the Family Support contract for The Arc of Winnebago, Boone & Ogle Counties needs so we can continue to provide our services.

Regretfully,

Jacki Neil Boss

Executive Director
